Overview
Fownd is a mobile application for thrift store resellers that helps identify items, estimate resale value, and manage inventory. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
Information We Collect
- Photos and images — When you scan an item, the image is sent to our AI pipeline (OpenAI) to identify the brand, model, and estimated resale value. Images are not stored on our servers beyond the time needed to produce a result.
- Inventory data — Items you save to your inventory (names, descriptions, prices, notes) are stored in a secure cloud database associated with your account.
- Location data — If you grant location permission, your approximate location is used to display nearby thrift stores. Location data is not stored or shared with third parties.
- Account information — If you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password.
- Usage data — We may collect anonymized analytics (e.g. which screens are visited most) to improve the app. This data does not personally identify you.
Camera Access
Fownd requests access to your device camera so you can photograph items for AI-powered identification and pricing. We do not use your camera in the background — camera access is only activated when you explicitly open the scan feature. You can revoke camera permission at any time in your device settings.
Third-Party Services
- OpenAI — Item images and descriptions are sent to OpenAI's API to generate identification and pricing results. OpenAI may process this data per their own privacy policy.
- eBay — Fownd queries eBay's marketplace data to provide resale estimates. No personal data is shared with eBay. Their privacy policy governs their own data practices.
- RevenueCat — In-app purchase and subscription management is handled by RevenueCat. They may collect your device identifier and purchase history.
- Google — The Store Map feature uses Google Places API to show nearby stores. Location lookups are subject to Google's privacy policy.
Data Stored Locally
Some preferences and cached data (such as recently scanned items) may be stored locally on your device using standard mobile storage APIs. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly sync or save it.
We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for their marketing or commercial purposes. Period.
Data Retention
We retain your account and inventory data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Fownd is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Opt out of analytics data collection

Security
We use industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption for data in transit and encryption for data at rest. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
